Hunting in Africa – sustainability and conservation

As a photographer and taxidermist, it was very interesting to experience Hunting in South Africa, an exciting experience out of the ordinary, with a rich fauna, varied landscapes and a long tradition of game management. But hunting here is not just about excitement and trophies – it plays a crucial role in wildlife conservation, economic sustainability and ecological balance.

Sustainable wildlife management

Contrary to popular belief, trophy hunting in South Africa is often an important part of nature conservation. Strictly regulated hunting makes major economic contributions to protecting endangered habitats, combating poaching, and securing biodiversity.

In addition, meat from hunting is an important resource. Game meat is used both locally and commercially, and many hunting farms operate ethical meat production as an alternative to industrial meat production.

Ethical hunting and respect for nature

For me, hunting – whether in Norway or South Africa – is about respect for the animal and nature.

South Africa is living proof that hunting and conservation can go hand in hand when managed properly. When hunting is conducted sustainably, it can be a powerful resource for both people and nature.
